Old Grandad Saguaro

Every once in a while, a Saguaro takes root in the bottom of an arroyo where water is plentiful. This old guy was one of those fortunate few and stands grandly below his thin, struggling neighbors up the hill. This one near the bottom of an arroyo seems to have gorged himself with lots of water.

Texas Mountain Laurel thrives at the Desert Botanical Garden in  Phoenix and it and its visitors were a beautiful sight in March. This little black creature returned again and again to sip the nectar, giving me a delightful chance to capture him on paper. At first I was fascinated with the flower but that little buzzer was impossible to ignore. This painting speaks of
